Run 2 miles(mostly trail) - Bike 10.5 miles(wind is a factor - 3 loops) - Run 2 miles(mostly trail).
It was freezing. In the 50's. The wind was bad. Got there early and waited. I was not sure whether to wear my cutoff shirt with 2 foldable sleeves or a long sleeve running shirt. Eventually decided on the long sleeve shirt.
The race finally started and I settled into my running pace. Glanced at my watch at 1 mile and I saw 6:30. Ha? At the end of 2 miles, I did 13 minutes. I never do that.
The bike started and the big fight with the wind. It's a mostly flat course but over 90% of the time, you fight the wind. We had to do 3 laps and man was it windy.
Finally, the bike finished and I changed back to my sneakers. Did a really fast transition. Legs felt sluggish but decided to keep going. Started setting my goal to be people in front of me. The people fly by and so does the distance. I kept passing people (approx 10 or so). Gotta make up for time lost on bike. At the finish line, I realized that even after the (damn wind) bike and the sluggish legs, I did the run in 13:24. Twenty-four seconds slower. That's GREAT!
If I can only do that time in a 5K....
