So I really wanted to do something different. Long runs were getting boring. Maybe not the right thing to do so close to the marathon but...

It was scheduled for the first day of Passover, meaning the night before you pig out. I had to really watch out for that and to make sure I don't eat the wrong things.

Early wake up as usual for sunday. Nothing new here except that hour and 10 minutes drive to Riverhead. Directions were a little flakey. Mapquest is usually right 99.9 percent of the time. It was that time. I found the school and by accident found the transition area.

Usual BS with the course description. It was supposed to be: 2 mile run - 10 mile bike - 2 mile run. The runs were a bit short and were NOT flat like they said. There were 2 subtle but long hills. The expect some strong winds was also BS. Heavy wind and cool temps. It was in the 50's and the winds were terrible.

My times were decently good. Not even sure what that means.

Now here's the kicker. The bike was supposed to be 5 loops of that same run loop. Now I can't count so I used my old rubber band trick. I brought 5 rubber bands and everytime I started a loop I transferred one from my left bull handle to the right. I did exactly 5 loops. I think most people "cheated" and did less. People I beat on the first run who did NOT pass me on the bike were able to finish the second run before me! Still, there were not that many people so you were almost guarannted a medal anyway. One guy accidentaly went and did 6 laps. Big OOPS! He was in the 30-34 age group and that was the only age group who actually had 4 people in it. No Medal for him unless you count the Darwin award. Sucks to be him.

Still, had a good time and won a Starbucks gift certificate.
