08/10/2022:

I
t was from a "good" place but we convinced Michael Prayor to do his first Marathon here. I mean it was cheap, local and not that difficult. That being said, it's also kinda boring but more importantly it's in January. And so, it was the coldest day of the whole damn year and we were out there for a long time... But I'm jumping the gun as usual.

As usual, Mikey started with, "we gotta do this...". He has a point. It is really cheap. It is really local. If family wants to spectate, they can. There is indoor plumbing. There is parking. And the coup de grace? Not a lot of choices for a January unless you are willing to travel. And so, making this my 3rd time here, seriously NO MORE, I signed up along side Jamey.

Michael said he wants to do it but he kept forgetting to sign up. What does that mean? Race day is here and I get there before Mikey and Matet. I get there before Michael and Jamey. It is COLD. It sucks.

Mikey calls. Where are you guys? Seriously dude...Every time. Finally everyone is there including Michael. Kudos for actually showing up.

As usual, 8 loops of the park. The "best" part is going around the lake. That's it. Nothing else. I run into the indoor plumbing and I see someone wearing shorts. Only one person I know would do that... Yup - Adam Orlow. He came to volunteer. Nice!!!

Other familiar persons: Chris Calimano (1st place overall), Paul Kentor (2nd place overall - I think), Matt Katz, John Vogt III and Alexis.

Covid rules are in place, so we start 2 at a time in a time trial format. We start. Jamey and I have a job to do. Get Michael across the finish. We start. The loops go by. I think by the 4th, Michael is hateing this but he continuees. The 5th and 6th suck too. He did make one comment which I did not like tho. Alexis the race walker passed us and he said, "we must be really slow". Even tho Alexis is a race walker, the dude is fast and had a lot of experience. Don't count him out. The 7th loop is hard. He's not smiling. He just wants to be done. We continue. The 8th loop is when his kids get there so it gives him a little motivation to continue. He knows that he is almost done...

I don't remember when but Matet passed us and Mikey joined us. We were having a blast even tho Michael wasn't so much.

We finish. Took some time. Glad it was done. I spoke to Chris at one point after the race, and he was shocked that Michael's first was this terribly cold one. He was shocked...

I was worried about Michael driving home by himself but he caravaned it with his kids and made it home ok.

It's been too long and that's all I can remember unfortunatly...
