My first TRI. Man, was I stressing. That friday was my first Aikido test. That sunday was my first Triathlon. It was crazy. I woke up at 4 am and left at 5. My mom was gonna come to the house, help Lee get ready and then take them to the tri. So much coordination. Take out the car seats. Pack up the bag, the bike, the car. Forget anything? Damn I was nervous. I took both cell phones by accident. I got there and started setting up. I was supposed to be in the 4th wave wearing a blue hat.
I knew the water was cold, so I bought a wet suit. The wet suit was a little tight and I was not sure how long it would take me to take it off. The wet suit was amazing. The water was cold and there were Jellyfish all over. Finally, it was time. The plan was to swim freestyle as much as I can and kill my arms, therefore preserving my legs. The water was not wavy but it was a little choppy and I had trouble keeping my stroke. I went over to breast stroke. I finished the swim in the first half of my wave with 21:03. As soon as I got out of the water, I took the cap off, my goggles off and stripped the wet suit to my waist. So far so good. I was then supposed to run but by switching to breast stroke, I wiped out my legs. Luckily, some people were cheering on so I ran to the transition area. T1 took a little time. Strip of the wet suit. Put on my watch, music, helmet, shorts, socks and sneakers. Walk the bike. I was not sure what to do, my legs were dead.
The music started and I went flying. I did fine first time with 41:03. I was great. The weekend before the tri, I had my bike tuned up and bought Kevlar tires. Almost no flats. I saw someone on the course changing a flat. I saw someone on the course run with a flat.
The bike finished I went into the transition area for T2. Again, I thought my legs were out but the music started and I took off. My goal was to finish the first loop running and then talk about the second loop. When I finished my first loop, I realized I had a little more so I continued. At the end I saw Jeremy and Jessie and Lee and my mom and I had tears in my eye. I then really pushed and passed 3 more people and across the finish line. It's over - 19:46. WOW!
