And so, race day came. Woke up early and left the house. Gave myself plenty of time with the knowledge that if I get tired, I would pull over and take a nap. All was fine, until it wasn't. I needed a quick nap. I got off the highway and into a rest area. Put the alarm on the phone and took a nap. Only problem was that I left the phone connected to the car and therefore the alarm NEVER went off so that I could hear it. So, nap was extended. Fortunatly, Michael had texted me asking how was the drive and for whatever reason, that woke me up and I realized whap happened. I ALWAYS give myself plenty of time so that was awesome. Went inside for a quick pee and on the way again. All good.
Got there, stopped at the port-a-pottie, got my stuff and back to the car. It was colder than I anticipated and kinda grey. I was wearing my Marathon Maniac Double Agent long sleeve shirt but it was too light. I took the race shirt, put it on and then the MM shirt on top. A beanie and a cap and light gloves and I felt better. Ran into Alexis, Gerald and his crew, and Julia and Shane.
Gerald's wife is always awesome with her support and again he had an entire crew. Otto Lam was there too... Shane had recently come back from the Middle East and so he was there too.
Note: They did offer me a ride but with Covid and stuff and them not being in my "pod", I decided to go alone.
We started, 2 at a time again in a time trial format. All is good. I'm a little cold.
Julia and I stuck together. Not sure if we ever have done that. Was that Kate up ahead? Not sure but ran into John McCleary. If he's here, then that was Kate. Never caught up to her. We picked some females up and we eventually either dropped them or they dropped us. Still, had a good time. We got to the "bad road". Dirt path that was muddy due to the on/off rain. Continued on.
At one point, I saw a squashed ball Python. Pity. Eventually into the lot of a parking lot. Stuck to me, not sure why. We continued on. Around the 13.1 mile mark, Julia recognized a friend...Jo Blackmore. A fellow NYCM Pacer and a good friend of Eliane and Tom Acosta. Jo said her catchphrase, apparently she has one, that right about now, she started regretting her life choices. I like Jo.
We ran together and talked and it was good and suddenly at mile 25. At this point, I believe, we went through the historic part of the city and it was pretty cool looking. Soon enough, we finished.
Everyone was happy. Went back to the car. It was raining. I was thinking of not changing clothes because I was so cold but I got smart. Dealt with it. Changed clothes right there at the car, making sure not too flash anyone. Drove him - all good.
