Run For Israel 5K!

Beautiful weather but tired. My knee hurt a little too. Saturday was hectic. Jessie had issues with the swim - Her teacher guarded instead. Also, we cleaned out the crap between the tiles in the shower and re-grouted. On my knees the whole time. Jessie later made up that swim but everything was just crazy.

Lee went to do a homecare right before the race. Crazy stuff. Kids ran the youth sprints and finally it was time for the 5K. Started well. Hilly race. It is what it is. It was quite interesting to see the battle royale playing out for the women. Amy who usually wins either first female overall (or second/third) was battling with Rina, who won the South Nassau Communities Hospital 5K. At 1 point, I was running with them and they were neck to neck. Cool stuff.

I thought I was doing well but at the end it was dropping.

My new bud, Adam, just aged up to my age group and he took first, the bastard. Nudging me from 3rd to 4th. Just kidding about the bastard part. He's a good guy and deserves it. He's fast. Still I missed 3rd and not happy. Lee got 2nd and took a long time until we got her trophy plaque.

Soon as I got home, I went out on the bike and did 58.5 miles. Even tho' I put suntan lotion before the race and before the bike, I still got burned badly on my back.

There's always next year I guess.

Forgot to mention 1 thing about a "mother's love". As always my mom was there to watch the kids while we race. Jeremy is talking about running a 5K but Elizabeth and I both agreed that this is really NOT the first one to try. Anyway, my mother is at the start of the run with the kids and we are waiting for Hillel (race director) to start the race. Suddenly the photographer comes over to me and tells me that he was asked by my mother to take my picture. Here's how the conversation between them went:

MOM: Please take a picture of my son
PTG: Who's your son? (while pointing to the 500 particpants)
MOM: He's the one with the sunglasses!
Now you know a good percentage of the 500 people were wearing sunglasses but my mother only saw me. Mother's love!

Biked 58.5 miles afterwards. I wanted to do b/w 60 and 80 miles but such is life. As is, I ran out of water and came back with a bad sunburn even tho I put suntan lotion before the 5K and before the ride. Shouldn't have skipped lunch either.
