Run For Israel 5K!

05/26/2011:

The tenth anniversary. Big one. Elizabeth and I have done this race quite a few times but this will be Jeremy's first. Not sure how things will play out yet but we will see.

I guess I should mention yesterday. Yesterday was a handful. It actually started with Tuesday, May 24th. The a.m started with 2 hard ass sprints on the bike on Commenwealth. Then at night was a hard workout on the treadmill along with a 1.2ish miles on the elliptical. Wednesday was the school's Lag B'Omer Picnic and I decided last minute to attend. I have been going on a lot of school events so I didn't think I would go. Still, I never missed it yet!

Can't miss an opportunity tho. Had Lee and the kids drop me off at 188th street and Union Turnpike. I walked to the Run For Israel 5K start so I can preview the course. Ran the 5K and then ran home. Right before the 5K was over, I hear my name being belted out. I passed right near the Bryck's and Tammi saw me. She was getting yet another sponser. God bless them.

Got home, walked the dog, showered and got on the bike to the picnic. Spent time there and then off on the bike. Who do I see at the triangle? DD getting ready to ride. Rode with him to the College and did 2 loops and then headed back home. Yet another shower and food and tried to relax before heading to the YMCA for a swim. Hard workout. Lost 4 pounds between those 2 days and feeling strange. Stoped swimming at 3,000. I was at the edge where just 1 more (lap, yard, foot, something) could have pushed me to the edge and got me injured. I was happy stopping feeling like I could do more rather then doing more and getting injured. Smart choice in my opinion. Now time to rest before this weekend.

05/31/2011:

So, Saturday was the 1.6 mile swim in the Hudson followed by running around at the YMCA.

Went to sleep early. Tried to regroup body. Woke up and tried to get ready while at the same time testing Jeremy on Social Studies. Should have focused on my stomach but priorities exist.

Sunday: Get to racesite early enough. Jessie and her friend Abby were running the youth sprints and they both got nice medals. Nicer than last year. Our race was due to start at 10:30. Day started overcast but the sun burned through before we started. BOO. It's a very walker friendly race which means late start. Walkers can't wake up early, you know. If it was a runners race then it would start 8am.

Anyway, re-connected with lots of people. Mo from Quantum Runners was there. Renegades had a huge showing. Abby's father was going to attempt. Jeremy was gonna try it.

Race finally started. The course is the same. The pain is the same. The heat/humidity was the same. Nothing else to be added.

I mean the first 1.5 miles is hills and hills and hills. Between 1.5 and 2.5 you can sort of catch your breath. From 2.5 to 3.1 it's bad.

Lee ran sans dog because of the heat and she actually wore shorts. I bought a pair of running shorts that I don't have the guts to use and she did. Amazing.

Saw Vincent from Renegades running. He ran past me like I was walking but the way he ran...He ran like he was walking. At the end, tried to finish strong but this guy that I beat into the ground, suddenly came out of nowhere and passed me. That's ok...He's 26. HAHA.

Lee finished before Jeremy this time. She looked good. Turns out she missed 3rd place by 12 seconds. Renegades I think took 2 spots. This was and I quote "this race is my only chance of getting a trophy". Not this year. I got 3rd. Funny thing is, at this race, I think she always got a trophy and sometimes me too. Never did we have an instance where I got something and she didn't. Oh well.
