SWIM COURSE: (approximately .62 miles) starts on boat ramp with each wave going off at 5 minute intervals. Please seed yourself in the the front middle or back of your wave based on your swim ability. Orange buoys will demark the course. There will be plenty of in-the-water support should anyone need it.
BIKE COURSE: (approximately 9 miles) The bikes will be racked in the large area on your left as you enter the park. (Again, no one other than triathletes will be allowed in this area!). The course heads toward and along the beach at the start, exits out the back of the park (near the marina) at the foot of South Street., and makes a left onto East Main Street. It continues on East Main, and bears right as East Main channels into Cove Road. Head south on Cove Road for about 1.5. miles until you turn Left onto Moores Hill Road.. (This uphill is only .3 mile but is very steep). If you walk here please stay to the right!) On the other side of the hill go past the Police booth to Stewart, make a right and continue until Route 25A , make a right and continue west on 25a for about 2 miles (the last mile is uphill). Turn right onto Berryhill Road. This road becomes a very fast downhill and culminates with a right turn onto South Street. Continue on South Street for about 6 blocks and make a left turn onto Audrey Ave. Continue to the bike finish (back at the bike racks). Please , please slow down and dismount your bike at the railroad tracks! Once in the Park, bear left into the transition area and jog to your bike rack area.
RUN COURSE: (3.1 miles)Cross over the Long Island Railroad tracks onto Bayside Avenue. Turn right at the traffic light onto West Shore Road.. Make a left onto Lake Avenue. At the end of Lake Avenue, turn right onto Glen Cove Road, staying on the left side of the street, and proceed up the very steep hill until you make a left onto Planting Fields Road. Proceed about 100 yards past the entrance to the Planting Fields Arboretum, where you will “turn around” and return back down Planting Fields Road. Turn right onto Glen Cove Road, and proceed down the hill. Turn left onto Mill River Road. Turn left onto Underhill Avenue, left again onto West Main Street. Turn right onto Larabee Avenue and proceed to the FINISH.
The same day I registered, they closed registration for safety reasons. Last year, they had over 1,000 people participating. Geez. They put me in the 11th wave. The elite wave starts at 7:30am, so I guess I am going in at approx ~ 8:25am.
They had 1310 particpants and it was crowded. I got there at 5:45 am and parking was already at a premium. It was rough. The swim went fine. It was longer then 1/2 mile, it was about .65 miles. They put me in wave 11 which sucks because that was the last wave. The elite wave started at 7:30, I got in the water at 8:23. As we got in to the water, approx. 60 people and I stumbled because of all the damn rocks in the water. The water was actually calm but because of all the people in the water, it actually became a little wavey.
When I got to the bike, I realized I had a cut on the bottom of my foot but I figured I will deal with it later though it hurt. I started the bike portion knowing that it was "rolling hills" (up and down) and that there is a monster uphill. It is only .3 mile long but steep. Now I figured that a real man would have no trouble with this and Lance would not so I was not gonna take the girlie way and walk. I got to the hill and managed to get up some of it before walking. It was the pits.
The run was supposed to be half up and then the other half down. This means kill the muscles up and kill the knees down. I did it and that was that.
When I finished I realized I should get a band-aid for my boo-boo, so I found the ambulance and sat down. When I took my shoe off, I saw that my sock is full of blood and so is my shoe. I am missing about an inch of skin in a deep gash. There is nothing to even stitch. Also, I have a deep cut between my toes. As of today, it is still bleeding as I limp.
Oh yeah, I forgot. I also jammed my ring finger real bad on friday during lunch. It is still swollen and black and blue and it was a real pleasure swimming with it. Also, all the bumps on the bike sent major pain through me.

This is an interesting article I read about the triathlon (after the fact). It's mainly regarding the bike portion. It is available in a Doc format but also available in a PDF format .
Another little article here .
