Didn't do it! Got Injured!

August 13th, 2008:

Went for a long run in the morning. Felt great. Time was great all around. Took a little stumble and fell. Bled a little from knee but no big deal. That evening, took a nap on the floor in weird position and I thought I might have a muscle strain. My wife also thought I might have ringworm.

Bad pain. I sometimes have to hold my pec. I'm crashing the m.d's office monday (Aug 18) and getting acupuncture monday night. No swim. I hope to have some news by then.

August 18th, 2008:

Got officialy diagnosed with Shingles. It's lodged in my chest wall across 3 or 4 dermatones. Major pain. When I got there, the nurse thought I was having a heart attack. I was clutching the left side of my chest. My doctor sent me to the dermatologist for a consult and then to CVS.

Valtrex seems to be helping with pain. Don't want to take the tylenol with Codeine. Slept 2 nights with icepack on my chest. Blisters look bad. Swam once and ran once with tons of band-aids, tylenols and running shirt (in pool).

August 22th, 2008:

Yesterday turned from bad to WORSE! Thursday, I woke up at 3am with a headache I could not shake. Tylenol and back to sleep but still woke up NOT happy.

We went to splish-splash. Luckily, my inlaws went as well so I did not drive. Slept both ways. At 1 point, I felt real bad. Slept the hour ride home, got home, showered and went to sleep at 5pm. Woke up the next morning at 7am, had breakfast with kids, sent everyone away and crashed in and out of consciousness for the next 4 hours.

Now, some residual pain but the sensitivity is killing me. Any slight touch on the left side shoots electricity through me. Shingles affects the nerves so makes sense.

You can't touch me on the left side. Even the shirt is killing me. Even just shifting position or flexing my pec or leaning forward or backward sends electricity through me. I know, I know, take your shirt off. Tried that. A little wind on my chest kills me. Not sure what to do. Decided to not workout for this week at least until done with meds. I think it contributes to the (little bit of) nauseau, which is a side-effect. But how am I supposed to run with this?

Had to defer Tobay. Did not want to test out their emergency evacuation procedures. Would have been real UGLY!
